Humans can be attributed to many of the pollution problems that the world experiences. Leading causes of outdoor air pollutions are exhaust from cars, factory byproducts, the ever-increasing size of landfills, non-biodegradable trash, and pesticide run-off. Pesticides play a large roll in the pollution of soil and water.
Pesticides are chemicals whose purpose are to prevent and kill pests, bacteria, and unwanted problems. In a study, it was found that 96% of all fish tested in major rivers and streams in the U.S. contained measurable amounts of one or more type of pesticide (Williams). Because fish is a source of food, this scenario can be applied to an exponential graph. This applies because any pesticides that are eaten by the fish, are eaten by the human who eats the fish. For example, if a fish consumes five units of pesticide, and a person eats two of the fish, that person has consumed ten units of pesticides. The larger the exponential graph is, the more harmful the effects are for the last consumers because the poison is present in much larger numbers.
